A native of Washington, DC. Mr. Amato has lived and worked in Connecticut, Georgia and Florida until returning to Washington, D.C. in 1999 when he joined Discovery Communications.

Discovery employs over 5,000 people of which 1,200 work and live in 27 countries outside of the United States. During his tenure at Discovery he has managed several key human resources areas including human resources information systems, compensation, and the global benefits functions.
Prior to joining Discovery, Mr. Amato held positions at Hard Rock Café International as Director of Compensation & Benefits, The Rank Group, Plc. as Director of U.S. Benefits & Compensation and a variety of positions early in his career with Aetna Life & Casualty.
Mr. Amato is a Certified Compensation Professional through World at Work and achieved the Global Professional Human Resources certification through SHRM. He has received several awards throughout his career and was featured in the NY Times for innovative practices at Discovery.
He resides in Maryland with his wife Jill and daughters Candice and Heather.
